Environmental Health Services at, 202 W. 4th Street, Alturas CA 96101 can provide these services for you. If you would like to contact them by phone for any questions regarding this matter, you can reach them at 530-233-6310. 3. If I live in Modoc County and my dog is impounded, what is the process to get him/her released? You must comply with a the following three step process; First, you need to go to the Modoc Vet Center and get verification of any current vaccinations and rabies shots that they may have on file for your dog. If your dog has not been vaccinated or if you cannot produce verification, for distemper, parvo, and rabies, then you need to make an appointment and pre-pay for those to be done. Second, you need to bring your verification of vaccinations and shots or proof that you have made an appointment and paid for for the vaccinations and rabies shots, to Environmental Health in order to receive your Modoc County license. Third, you need to bring everything that you have obtained from the Modoc Vet Center and Environmental Health to the Modoc County Sheriff's Office, at which time you will be required to pay for any impound fees that have occurred. Once you have completed these three steps the Department of Animal Control can release your dog back to you. However, you need to follow through with the vaccination appointment with Modoc Vet Center and pick up your license afterward at Environmental Health, or the Department of Animal Control can take your dog back into custody until these three steps have been completed. 4. How long does my dog have while it is impounded at the Alturas City Shelter? You have up to 5 business days to claim your dog. If your dog is not claimed after 5 business days then the dog belongs to the Modoc County Sheriff's Office and will be handed over to the High Plateau Humane Society for adoption, or will be destroyed. 5. What kind of services do you provide? We investigate excessive barking, and noise complaints, inspect kennels, pick up loose and contained animals including livestock, respond to animal bites and attacks, and provide welfare checks on animals. Often we are called upon to provide emergency services and transport for other rescue personnel who are not equipped to move animals, such as the Fire Department, CHP, and Health Department. Some services, but not all, require a fee. 6. Can I adopt any animals at the shelter? We do not have an adoption service at this time. All adoptions are done through High Plateau Humane Society.
